Terms of Service

MediaFilez Terms of Service

Effective date: September 10, 2026
Last updated: September 10, 2026

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern use of the official hosted MediaFilez Discord application (the "Service"), operated by the MediaFilez project (the "Operator," "we," "us," or "our"). By installing, authorizing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

The MediaFilez source code is separately offered under the AGPL-3.0-only license. These Terms govern the hosted Service, not the rights granted by that software license. Independently hosted copies are operated by their respective hosts and are not covered by these Terms.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old, meet the minimum age required to use Discord in your country, and be legally permitted to use the Service. If applicable law requires a parent or guardian to agree for you, that person must review and accept these Terms on your behalf.

You must also comply with the Discord Terms of Service, Discord Community Guidelines, and all laws and platform rules that apply to the media or URL you submit.

2. The Service

MediaFilez accepts a public HTTP or HTTPS URL through the /media command. It attempts to retrieve media, validate it, optionally convert or compress it, and upload one result to Discord. Supported sites, extractors, quality, filenames, availability, and upload limits can change without notice. A listed or technically accessible website is not a promise that every URL is supported or that downloading it is authorized.

The Service may use third-party websites, public embed relays, content-delivery networks, or configured Cobalt instances. These services may be unavailable, may block automated access, and have separate terms and privacy policies.

The Operator may use a dedicated source-platform account or session cookies to access public media that a platform shows only to signed-in visitors. Users do not sign in through MediaFilez and must not provide their account credentials. The presence of an authenticated session does not authorize access to private, paid, removed, rights-restricted, or otherwise protected content and does not grant permission to download or redistribute any media.

MediaFilez is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Discord or any source platform unless expressly stated.

3. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for each URL and request you submit. You represent that:

  • the URL is public and you have the rights, licenses, permissions, or other lawful basis needed to access, download, transform, and share the requested media;
  • your request and the resulting use will not infringe copyright, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights;
  • you will follow the source website's terms and any technical access restrictions;
  • you will not submit secrets, signed private links, credentials, access tokens, personal data you are not authorized to process, or content whose disclosure could harm another person; and
  • you will review the destination channel before requesting a result that may be publicly visible there.

MediaFilez does not grant you rights to third-party content. Being able to retrieve media does not mean you are allowed to copy, publish, or redistribute it.

4. Prohibited use

You may not use or attempt to use the Service to:

  • access private accounts, paywalled material, removed content, or content protected by digital rights management;
  • bypass authentication, authorization, rate limits, platform safeguards, or access controls;
  • infringe intellectual-property, privacy, publicity, or other legal rights;
  • obtain or distribute child sexual abuse material, non-consensual intimate material, exploitative content, malware, or unlawful content;
  • harass, threaten, dox, impersonate, defraud, or invade another person's privacy;
  • overload, probe, disrupt, reverse engineer, or interfere with the Service, Discord, a source platform, or another system, except for good-faith security research reported under SECURITY.md;
  • automate abusive volumes of requests, evade per-user limits, or use multiple accounts to avoid restrictions; or
  • use the Service in a way that violates applicable law, Discord rules, or the rules of the source platform.

5. Content and limited processing permission

You keep any rights you have in information or content you submit. You grant the Operator a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive permission to access, copy, temporarily store, transform, and transmit the submitted URL, media, and associated metadata only as needed to provide, secure, troubleshoot, and legally operate the Service. This permission ends when the information is no longer needed for those purposes, subject to ordinary log rotation, provider retention, legal obligations, and Discord's independent retention.

You are responsible for removing a Discord message or attachment you control when you no longer want it available. Server administrators and Discord may have additional controls.

6. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy describes what information the official Service processes, why it is used, who may receive it, how long it is kept, and how to request deletion. By using the Service, you acknowledge that processing described there is necessary to carry out your request.

7. Enforcement and termination

We may reject a request or suspend, restrict, or terminate access without prior notice when reasonably necessary to protect the Service or others, comply with law or platform requirements, investigate abuse, or enforce these Terms. We may also stop operating all or part of the Service at any time.

If you believe access was restricted by mistake, contact us with your Discord user ID and a concise description. Do not send credentials or private media.

8. Copyright and rights complaints

To report content or use that you believe infringes your rights, email [email protected] with the subject "MediaFilez Rights Report" and include the source URL, the Discord location if known, your relationship to the affected work or person, and a way to contact you. Do not include passwords, tokens, or unnecessary sensitive information. Because delivered attachments are hosted by Discord, you may also need to use Discord's reporting process.

9. Availability and changes

The Service is provided on an "as available" basis. We do not promise uninterrupted access, permanent storage, compatibility with a particular site, a particular media quality, or recovery of any file. We may change limits, engines, commands, features, or these Terms to address technical, security, legal, or platform requirements.

If these Terms materially change, we will update the date above and publish the revision at the same public location. Continued use after the effective date of revised Terms constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.

10. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, or security. We do not endorse or control third-party content and do not warrant that your use of downloaded media is lawful.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so part of this section may not apply to you.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Operator and project contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, goodwill, or access, arising from or related to the Service. Where liability cannot legally be excluded, aggregate liability will be limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the Service during the six months before the event giving rise to the claim or USD 10.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law or limits mandatory consumer rights.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by applicable law. Any dispute must be brought before a court or other forum with competent jurisdiction under applicable law. Before filing a formal claim, you agree to contact us and make a good-faith effort to resolve the dispute informally for 30 days, unless urgent relief is reasonably required.

13. General terms

If any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the remaining parts will continue in effect. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent; we may transfer these Terms as part of a reorganization or transfer of the Service. These Terms and the Privacy Policy form the entire agreement concerning the official hosted Service, subject to mandatory law and the separate terms of Discord and relevant third parties.
